Deadline For Chattooga BOE Member Applications Ends

A total of six people applied the open seat on the Chattooga County Board of Education that was left vacant by the resignation of John Turner earlier this year, according to acting Chattooga County School Superintendent Jared Hosmer.

Mr. Hosmer told WZQZ News that of the six people that applied, only four were eligible for the position.  Tyler Blalock and Steven Groves both applied for the position but do not live inside the Summerville District.

Those who applied for the position and qualify include: Brad Groce, Kenneth Busbin, Sr., Carrie “Pam” Albert and Eddie Elseberry.

Mrs. Albert is currently an employee of the school district and works in the lunchroom at Leroy Massey Elementary School.  Mr. Hosmer said that he spoke with Mrs. Albert and explained that if she was chosen by Board of Education to fill the empty seat, she would have to give up her job with the school system.  Employees of the school system are not eligible to serve on the Board of Education.

Eddie Elsberry applied for the position on the last day to submit applications, according to Mr. Hosmer.  Elsberry has served on the Board of Education in the past.

The deadline to qualify for the position was May 30th at 5 PM.  Mr. Hosmer said that the board will now review the applications and make a decision on who will fill the seat left vacant by Mr. Turner.

The Chattooga County Board of Education will hold their next work session and regular monthly meeting on June 20th at 6 PM. The meetings will be held at the Chattooga County Education Center, located at 206 Penn Street in Summerville.
